The purpose of this activity is to provide a state-of-the-art overview of the clinical care of patients with HIV infection for practicing clinicians and other health professionals. The activity will include discussions of HIV, clinical management and treatment, and longitudinal care. This year’s conference also focuses on the management of viral hepatitis. The material will be clinically oriented with a focus on the latest pertinent data from clinical trials and basic research. Participants can expect to become more competent in caring for the patient with HIV infection and/or viral hepatitis infections.

Objectives

After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:

• Manage patients with comorbid conditions and infections, including diabetes, metabolic syndrome, abnormal lipids, tuberculosis and other pulmonary diseases, substance abuse, and sexually transmitted infections.
• Identify and be prepared to treat viral hepatitis, particularly Hepatitis C, using newly approved treatments for Hepatitis C.
• Discuss the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in eligible patients.
• Describe and appropriately prescribe highly active antiretroviral therapy for HIV.
