Professor Lisa Maher will provide an overview of her research on preventing HIV in women who inject drugs and female sex workers to frame the discussion.

Lisa Maher is Head of the Viral Hepatitis Epidemiology and Prevention Program at the Kirby Institute for Infection and Immunity, National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Senior Research Fellow, and Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at UNSW Australia. Professor Maher’s research focuses on the prevention of infectious disease in vulnerable populations and she has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and several books including “Sexed Work: Gender, Race and Resistance in a Brooklyn Drug Market”. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, including the Order of Australia for significant services to medicine and the field of epidemiology.
