Hello, my name is Brittany Kelly. I am a nursing student at Johns Hopkins University and a native of East Baltimore. I joined Generation Tomorrow because I wanted to have an impact on the high prevalence of HIV and hepatitis C in East Baltimore, especially among African Americans. Participating in Generation Tomorrow will hopefully develop the skills I need throughout my career.
I am working with the Johns Hopkins Emergency Department to educate people about HIV and hepatitis C and to link people who are in need of treatment rapidly to care. The Johns Hopkins Emergency Department treats a variety of people who are from not only Baltimore City but also the surrounding area. These people will all benefit from the HIV and hepatitis C education, linkage to care, and resources that I provide.
I have been impacted by the information I learned about HIV and hepatitis C from Generation Tomorrow. The information sessions opened my eyes to many aspects of HIV and hepatitis C and taught me how to communicate with patients who may have HIV or hepatitis C infection or who are getting tested for the first time. Although I am from Baltimore, there was so much I did not know, and Generation Tomorrow has helped me become a better healthcare provider for this community.
