Paradise Madlala is a Senior Lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and a faculty member of the HIV Pathogenesis Programme (HPP). He earned his PhD in Genetics from UKZN and completed postdoctoral training in Molecular Virology at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. His research investigates how genetic variations in HIV contribute to its persistence, aiming to translate this knowledge into advancing the search for a cure.

He has received several prestigious accolades, including the World Pioneer of HIV Cure Research Academy Fellowship at the 2018 World AIDS Conference, along with multiple grants such as the SANTHE Award, VLIR-OUS Grant, and CFAR Africure Award. His current research, funded by the CAFAR Africure Award, focuses on sex differences in the latent HIV reservoir and immune responses in people living with HIV subtype C, advancing efforts towards an HIV cure.
