Speaker(s): Elmi Muller, MD
Professor Muller has the world's largest number of HIV to HIV transplants. In 2011, Professor Muller recieved South Africa's Woman of the Year award. Professor Muller trained at Pretoria and recieved her PhD from Oxford University. In order to address the lack of care and support provided for HIV-positive patients suffering from end stage renal disease, Professor Muller decided to develop a road to transplantation: previously denied state funded dialysis after being labelled non-suitable transplant patients, HIV-positive patients could receive the organs of HIV-positive donors.
